School Wide Interdisciplinary Exploration

GRADE 4 UNIT

  • What was farming like in the past?
  • What is farming like in Portsmouth now?
  • How do landscapes tell a story of our history, heritage and our lives today?

These web pages are a result of a semester long research project on our local farms in Portsmouth, RI by Grade 4 student's at Elmhurst Elementary School. This is a completely student-based web site! All the research, writing, photographs, artwork and the web page itself was created by students!

Each class created interview questions based on pre-visit research, visited the local farm, interviewed the farmers, photographed, and created art in response to their visits. These web pages record what they wanted others to know about the farms they visited and what they learned.
