Standards Addressed in the Art Room

Visual Arts Standards:

1. Understanding and applying media, techniques and processes:

  • Know the difference between materials, techniques and processes ( drawing, sketching Vs painting Vs photography)

  • Describe how different materials and techniques and processes cause different responses ( why chose the different materials like paint, photography and drawing)

  • Use different media, techniques, and processes to communicate ideas, experiences and stories (will use research in classroom, photography, sketches, primary resources and field trip to generate works of art that are informative, personal, and observational )

  • Use art materials in a safe and responsible manner

2. Using knowledge of structures and functions (art skills: elements and principles of design)

  • Know the differences among visual characteristics, and purposes of art in order to convey ideas ( looking at different artists and how they used color, texture and values top create landscapes that tell a story)

  • Describe how different expressive features and organizational principles cause different response (see above)

  • Use visual structures and functions of art to communicate ideas ( will be creating personal works of art to tell stories of the past and personal connection to it)

3. Choosing and evaluating a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas a &b )         

  • Students will use research they have done in creating a work of art that represents their own heritage story through symbols and personal landscapes

 

4.  Understanding the visual arts in relation to culture and history

  • Students will be looking at various landscapes by famous artists that tell a story of the past, present and future heritage and culture of land and the people using it.

 

5.  Reflecting upon and assessing the characteristics and merits of their work and the work of   others

  • Understanding there are various purposes for creating works of visual art (observational sketches as research, to record history, personal and to tell a story)

  • Describe how peoples experiences influence the development of specific artworks (artists who use landscapes to tell personal histories)

  • Understand there are different responses to specific artworks (the different landscapes that tell past and present views)

6. Making connections between visual arts and other disciplines

  • Library, Social Studies, Writing and Applied Learning
